4 Things You Can Do to Become a Better Hunter this Off-Season

We all have an off-season and sometimes it seems like it just flies by. Before we know it, it’s the day before the season opens and we get stressed out because everything is in shambles.

Here are a few things you can do during the off-season to be better prepared for the upcoming hunting season.

Know Your Ducks

Anyone can go out and shoot a duck… Well, maybe not everyone! Even if you miss, it’s still good to know your target and what you’re hunting. You can use free time this offseason to do research and study ducks that migrate or winter through the areas you hunt.

Ducks Unlimited is a great resource for studying waterfowl identification. They have detailed breakdowns for most waterfowl, which includes descriptions, range maps, habits, and more.

Practice Your Calling

Preferably outside when social distancing, but if you want to annoy everyone in the house, you can do it there too. You can definitely be that guy!

There’s nothing better than busting out your favorite call and laying down a hard practice session for a few minutes. You can record it and play it back right after. Then, you will know if you need more practice or if you still got it.

Do you want to try a new call out? We have several calls available through our website.

Clean and Organize Your Gear

I can’t stress how important this one is. We all have those hunts where we come back and throw everything into a pile. Then, we forget about the pile. Don’t lie, we’ve all been there!

Use this time to go through all of your gear and give everything a thorough scrub down.

When everything is clean, sort and organize your gear. This is crucial for the next and final step.

You will also want to make sure your gear is fixed and in working condition. Equipment breaks, so be sure to really go over everything and fix what needs attention. Use this time wisely.

Your friends and the ducks will thank you this Fall!

Inventory Your Gear

Make a list of exactly what you have and how many of each item. This will give you a good idea of what you will need for next season.

Instead of waiting until the last minute to buy what you need, you can use the time between now and the season to shop around for the best deals.
