I grew up hunting and fishing on Bay River in Pamlico County. After school I ended up Down East building fishing boats in Marshallberg. I had always been fairly good at drawing and painting. I did a lot of that on the side to help make ends meet. As a boat builder, I learned tons of valuable woodworking skills and ended up eventually doing some finish carpentry for Jarrett Bay Boatworks. After hunting Core Sound and getting involved in the rich heritage of Decoys that is so strong Down East, making them myself was a natural progression. I was able to blend my art and woodworking skills with my love of duck hunting. I’m fortunate to have so many examples of great birds and incredible decoy makers for reference right in my Down East community. It’s an honor to be a part of it.
